Sycamore NON-NATIVE
(Acer pseudoplatanus)

The paired,
winged fruit (keys) are green tinged with red and ripen to brown.
Smooth grey-brown bark when young,
becoming scaly and flaky with maturity. Flowers hang in long, spiky clusters.
Height up
to 35m, with magnificent domed canopy. New buds resemble alien heads
and seeds are carried by the distinctive
'helicopter' dispersal.
Uses of sycamore
Furniture, butchers' blocks, veneer, boxes, crates, kitchen tables, interior mouldings and finishings, wooden bowls & plates.
It is a soft wood, that is carved quite easily.
