South Woodhill
South Woodhill lies to the north of Kilmarnock near the village of Kilmaurs. It is on the south bank of the Carmel Water
Parking: Limited by unused field gate at present (2 cars) or in village of Knockentiber.
Access: No formal access at present - access over unused field gate. Stiles are present along the boundary edge.
Description: South Woodhill is a good example of a northwest ash wood community, with a mature closed canopy of ash, elm and sycamore with frequent oak and birch. Although small in size, the woodland has high nature conservation value and is part of a locally important river corridor comprising the Carmel Water Wildlife Site.
Bird Species: South Woodhill provides excellent habitat for a range of resident and migrant species. Recorded species include;
