Elm (Ulmus procera) NATIVE

Native tree to Britain, although
it was believed in the past that the Romans might have introduced it
to support grape vines.
English Elm was the main victim
of the Dutch Elm Disease (DED) epidemic, which started in 1967.
Efforts continue to search for resistant strains. Many dying elms can still
be seen throughout our countryside.
Leaves:
Distinctive base of round leaf, with one side longer than the other.
Buds: Small round buds along stem, more pointed towards the end and mid to dark brown colour.
