Status: Resident all year round
Scots Names: Gillihowlet, White Hoolet, Roarer
Size: 34cm
Habitat: Open country, woodland edge, farmland
Food: Small mammals and some small birds
UK population: ~5000 pairs in Summer
Breeding: Often in top of hollow tree stump or in corner of an outbuilding or barn.
Up to 6 eggs, incubation up to 32 days
Call Note: Unearthly screeches, hisses and groans are heard the most.
Status: AMBER
